The Role Of India

goal.jpg (1519 bytes) India is a virtual treasure house for tropical ornamental plants. Unlike in the West, the mild winter, ample sunlight, low labour costs, availability of skilled manpower and overall agro-climatic conditions contribute to the potential growth of floriproducts. Moreover, floriculture has 25-30 times the forex earning capacity of other agriculture products. Govt.of India has recognised this potential and has fixed an export target of Rs. 100 crores of cut and potted flowers. The boom can truly be said to have begun.

The global market is expanding rapidly and is today worth over $ 25 billion (Rs.75,000 crores). With a growth of 10-15% per year, the world market should be worth almost $ 40 billion (Rs. 1,20,000 crores) by the turn of the century.

India, today, is seen by the world market as a potential goldmine for cut and potted flowers. And in response to these favourable conditions, Hindustan Agrigenetics is now poised to exploit the global floriculture market with its project to produce 2.4 million cut flowers.
